Mortal Shell 2 is officially launching on August 20 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, landing right in the middle of a heavily crowded summer release window. Priced at $49.99 for the standard edition with a three-day early access tier available in the Devout Edition, the game is also hosting a robust open beta across all platforms for players wanting to test out the action before launch.
Developer Cold Symmetry has locked in an August 20 release date for Mortal Shell 2 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The sequel to the inventive Soulslike arrives during one of the most crowded stretches in gaming history. Publishers are desperately trying to navigate the looming calendar shadow of Grand Theft Auto 6, resulting in a massive cluster of major titles launching within the exact same window. Players facing a packed late summer schedule will have to make some tough choices regarding where to spend their time and money.
To help soften the blow of a crowded release calendar, Cold Symmetry has kept pricing for Mortal Shell 2 notably consumer friendly. The standard edition sits at $49.99, while the Devout Edition bumps up to $59.99 to include cosmetic extras and a three day early access period starting August 17. Pre-orders are live now across all platforms. For players who want to test the waters before committing funds to the August melee, the developer also launched a generous open beta on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S that offers several hours of hands on time.
The timing means Mortal Shell 2 will launch right alongside or adjacent to a massive wave of heavy hitters including Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Star Wars Zero Company, and The Sinking City 2. Genre overlap is high, meaning action RPG fans will have plenty of options to juggle. However, strong early interest is already evident, with physical Revered Edition pre-orders on PlayStation 5 selling out rapidly. You can read the original reporting over at Eurogamer.
