Mortal Shell 2's first major update introduces new items, economy overhauls, and extensive boss balancing just over a week after launch. The patch also tackles performance fixes, save safety, and quality-of-life improvements across all platforms.
Cold Symmetry has rolled out the first major post-launch update for Mortal Shell 2 just over a week after the soulslike sequel hit digital and physical storefronts. Landing on Steam, the patch introduces a suite of fresh items designed to alter run pacing. Players can now utilize Fragile Tarstones that shatter into Tarcores, Glimpse Stones that degrade as enemies fall to yield Glimpses, and Egon's Stones which offer a dungeon entrance revival at the cost of durability while preventing Gloom loss.
Beyond new inventory additions, the update addresses several community pain points surrounding the game economy and exploration flow. Glimpses and Tarcores are no longer finite resources, meaning players can fully upgrade shells within a single playthrough. Additionally, developer Cold Symmetry has implemented sweeping combat and balance passes, reworking roughly sixteen bosses and mini-bosses alongside heavy weapon poise, enemy aggression ranges, and shell visuals.
The massive patch notes also detail extensive quality-of-life adjustments, ranging from bug fixes for notorious softlocks and collision gaps to improved frame generation support and new graphics options. Original reporting by Cameron Swan over at Game Rant outlines how these comprehensive tweaks aim to smooth out the rough edges of an otherwise critically praised sequel that has currently earned an impressive 85 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic.
