Mortal Shell 2 Delivers Major Overhaul With Its First Big Post-Launch Update

Mortal Shell 2's first major update fixes its restrictive economy by making resources infinite, rebalances weapons and bosses, and revamps combat mechanics.

Developer Cold Symmetry has wasted no time addressing community feedback, rolling out a massive first update for Mortal Shell 2 just over a week after launch. Available now on Steam with console drops following soon, the patch tackles one of the community's primary pain points by overhauling the game's strict economy. Glimpses and Tarstones are finally infinite, meaning players can now fully upgrade every Shell and experiment with builds across a single playthrough without hitting frustrating resource walls. A new respec item called Mether's Severance also lets you refund spent Glimpses whenever you want to mix up your playstyle.

Beyond fixing the economy, the update brings sweeping rebalances to every weapon and Shell in the game, alongside some much-needed tuning for major boss encounters. Exploration has also been smoothed out with the addition of new Beacons across Fainweald and Mammon, directly solving the uneven checkpoint distribution that plagued the initial release. For dungeon runners, a consumable item called Egon's Stone now ports you back to the entrance upon death while preventing resource loss, taking some of the sting out of deep dungeon dives.

Combat mechanics received plenty of love as well, most notably through a complete rework of ripostes. High-damage parry attacks now scale properly into the late-game and New Game Plus, complete with more reliable invulnerability windows to reward precise timing. As Eurogamer noted in their initial review, these kinds of swift, listening-driven updates help cement the game as a standout entry in the modern Soulslike conversation, giving dedicated players even more reason to dive back in.
