Mortal Shell 2's first patch lowers weapon smelting costs, increases gold drops, and implements balance adjustments shortly after launch.
Cold Symmetry is wasting no time addressing player feedback. Following the launch of Mortal Shell 2, the development team has already pushed out the game's first major balance patch. Soulslike titles live and die by their pacing and challenge, but opening weekend data often reveals where the friction tips over from satisfying into tedious. This early update aims to smooth out those rough edges with some very welcome adjustments to the in-game economy and enemy scaling.
The headline change targets resource gathering, which had previously demanded a bit too much repetitive grinding. According to details shared via Steam, weapon smelting costs at the Tarforge have plummeted by 75 percent. The developers noted that the original costs were set too high, defeating the purpose of letting players freely experiment with different builds without sinking dozens of hours into New Game Plus runs. Standard gold drops from enemies have also seen a significant increase, and shell map locations now cost gloom while refunding previously spent glimpses.
On the combat side, players are getting a few quality-of-life buffs, including the ability to use guard while walking. Enemy and boss hit point values have generally been reverted to their beta levels, aside from a few specific tweaks like keeping the Caerinid spider in Magdalena's area as a properly threatening, non-respawning mini-boss. As Rock Paper Shotgun noted in their glowing review praising the game's tightly designed dungeon layouts and interconnected open world, these targeted adjustments should only make an already strong experience even smoother for players diving in across platforms.
