More Slaying, More Style: Demon Slayer Chronicles 2 Adds Even More Hashira Hottness!

IGN South Africa showcased a new trailer highlighting Hinatsuru, Suma, and Makio as the next playable characters coming to 'Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2', injecting much-needed variety to the game's roster, but only time will tell if it is enough.

Right, so the 'Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2' keeps on trucking, and this time we're getting a look at some more playable characters. IGN South Africa dropped a trailer showcasing Hinatsuru, Suma, and Makio – three of Tengen Uzui's wives (and yes, they’re all demon slayers in their own right). Now, I know what you're thinking: another character trailer? But hold on, because this one actually looks like it adds some much-needed spice to the gameplay.

We already know the core of 'Hinokami Chronicles' is solid. It's a flashy, over-the-top arena fighter that nails the anime's aesthetic. But let’s be honest, the initial roster felt a little… samey. Plenty of sword swings and special moves, sure, but not a huge amount of strategic depth. This is where these new characters could actually shift things up. Each of the wives boasts a unique fighting style, distinct from the main cast and each other.

Hinatsuru is the ranged attacker of the group, utilizing her kunai and other projectile weaponry to keep her opponents at bay. Suma, the most emotional of the trio, uses a mix of her acrobatic skills and ninjitsu to overwhelm enemies with her speed. Finally, Makio relies on her strength, speed, and bombastic personality to defeat opponents! If you were a fan of the Entertainment District Arc, and who wasn't?, then these characters will feel right at home.

But does this fix the underlying issues with the game? That's the million-dollar question. ‘Hinokami Chronicles’ had some trouble with repetition and the story mode, which was honestly a bit bare-bones. It’s one thing to have gorgeous visuals and bombastic attacks, but if the gameplay loop gets old fast, even the most die-hard fans will start to wander off. Adding interesting characters with their own fighting style is a step in the right direction to revitalizing the player base. However, as fans we have to ask if that is enough to revitalize the game.

Still, I'm cautiously optimistic. More characters, especially ones this diverse, mean more potential for combos, more variety in online matches, and a reason to jump back into the training mode and hone our skills. I reckon if the developers keep pumping out content like this, with a focus on unique playstyles, then ‘Hinokami Chronicles 2’ might just have some staying power. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to practice my water breathing techniques. Just in case, you know, demons actually exist.
