Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault Enters Early Access With Fresh 3D Depth

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has launched into early access, bringing a 3D isometric perspective to the beloved shopkeeper and dungeon-crawler hybrid while retaining its core day and night gameplay loop.

Seven years after the original indie hit blended shopkeeping with dungeon crawling, developer Digital Sun and publisher 11 bit studios are back with Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. As reported by Johnny Yu at Polygon, the sequel has officially launched into early access, bringing a notable shift from 2D pixel art to a fully realized 3D isometric perspective. While the core gameplay loop remains instantly recognizable, the added dimension completely alters how players navigate both combat and commerce.

The sequel picks up with protagonist Will and the Rynoka villagers driven from their homes by an interdimensional collector named Moloch. Stranded in a new settlement called Tresna alongside a mysterious artifact known as the Endless Vault, Will has to dust off his old gear and get back to business. The familiar day and night cycle is firmly intact. Nighttime is reserved for plunging into shifting otherworldly portals to battle aliens, robots, and witches while managing tight inventory space, while daytime requires setting up shop, pricing goods, and turning stolen loot into profit to fund gear upgrades and town improvements.

Because the game is currently in early access, the narrative and world are still works in progress, meaning some plot threads and pacing beats are bound to shift before the full 1.0 release. Even so, the foundational mechanics show plenty of promise for players looking for a satisfying mix of action and resource management. It is a smart approach for an indie sequel, letting the community test the waters and shape the final product while enjoying a fresh spin on a beloved formula.
