Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is introducing a new mode called Collateral that adds a Counter-Strike style economy and removes respawns from the classic Search and Destroy formula.
Call of Duty is taking a cue from Valve by introducing an in-game economy to its classic Search and Destroy formula. As reported by Polygon, the upcoming Modern Warfare 4 will feature a new mode called Collateral, which swaps out standard loadouts for a cash-based purchasing system. Players will start each match with just a pistol, earning funds through eliminations and objective play to buy weapons, armor, and perks between rounds.
Collateral strips away several familiar Call of Duty mechanics to lean into a more tactical, high-stakes experience. The mode removes respawns, Killstreaks, automatic health regeneration, and custom loadouts, meaning every purchase carries genuine risk. Dying in a round means losing your currently equipped gear, though your leftover cash rolls over to the next round. Teams can even pool their money together to purchase tactical assets like a UAV, bringing a distinctly tactical shooter rhythm to the franchise.
Alongside the reveal of Collateral, Activision highlighted a robust suite of PC-specific features arriving with the game on October 23. Players can expect support for technologies like DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR Redstone, a built-in performance benchmark, and over 800 customization options. Activision plans to share deeper details on the economic meta of Collateral as the launch date approaches.
