The Modern Warfare 4 beta received its first major update, adding a new map and mode while lowering footstep audio and tweaking weapon lethality based on player feedback.
Infinity Ward has pushed the first major update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, directly addressing community feedback from day one regarding audio, weapon balance, and matchmaking features. As reported by Eurogamer, the update lowers the volume and audible range of enemy footsteps, a frequent point of discussion among players testing the early access build. Weapon lethality has also seen an initial pass, with damage ranges and headshot multipliers reduced for the ISO Nightshade SMG and Oris 8.6 marksman rifle to smooth out time-to-kill pacing.
Alongside the balance tweaks, the update introduces fresh content to the playlist, including a new map named Cachette and a new mode called Inflation. Inflation introduces a high-stakes economy where players collect cash by eliminating opponents and high-value targets, turning the richest players into marked bounties for the rest of the lobby. The addition of Cachette brings the active map pool to four, which automatically unlocks the highly requested map voting system for the remainder of the beta weekend.
Technical fixes also form a major part of the patch, addressing lighting issues on Transit 213, controller reconnection errors, and various menu bugs. While issues such as frame drops when cooking certain lethals are still being investigated, the rapid turnaround on community complaints highlights the value of the ongoing beta phase. The early access period runs through August 25, leading into a fully open beta weekend starting August 28 for players across all platforms.
