Minecraft is receiving its first new dimension since version 1.0 launched in 2011, with the spirit-themed Sift arriving from Minecraft Dungeons 2 in 2027.
Mojang just dropped a massive announcement during Minecraft Live that is shaking up the community in the best way possible. For the first time since the game officially hit version 1.0 way back in 2011, a totally new dimension is heading to the survival crafting giant. Arriving in 2027, the Sift will bring an ethereal, spirit world aesthetic straight from the upcoming action RPG spin off Minecraft Dungeons 2 into both the Java and Bedrock editions of the main game.
This update breaks a nearly fifteen year streak where Mojang chose to expand existing biomes in the Overworld, Nether, and End rather than introduce an entirely new realm to explore. Alongside this generational addition, the showcase revealed that ice caves are coming as a new underground biome complete with the Frozen Zombie mob and craftable ice balls, while the Minecraft Marketplace will soon introduce official Sound Effects packs to level up custom builds.
Beyond the core game, Mojang teased a more robust creator platform for community builders and confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 launch for October. Between theme park announcements and major content drops, the ecosystem is expanding rapidly, giving cross platform players on mobile, console, and PC plenty of reasons to stay plugged in as the sandbox evolves for a new era.
