Minecraft Dungeons 2 is officially on the way and launching later this year

Minecraft Dungeons 2 is launching later this year across major consoles, PC, and Game Pass following an accidental leak, bringing back cooperative action-RPG gameplay to the massive franchise.

Mojang Studios and Double Eleven are returning to the blocky action-RPG spin-off universe with Minecraft Dungeons 2, which is scheduled to launch later this year. The project was leaked early via a social media post from Gematsu before being officially confirmed by publisher Xbox Game Studios. The sequel is heading to a wide range of platforms, including PC via Steam and the Xbox app, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Subscribers will also be glad to know it is coming straight to Game Pass on day one.

The official press release promises an all-new adventure packed with high-stakes encounters, fresh locations, and plenty of gear to chase. Players will be able to dive in solo or team up with up to three friends for cooperative multiplayer sessions. While the reveal arrived sooner than planned due to the leak ahead of Minecraft Live, the sequel makes plenty of sense given the massive staying power of the original game.

Released back in 2020, the first Minecraft Dungeons grew into a massive success story, pulling in over 25 million players by early 2024. It stands as the most successful spin-off from the franchise, which remains the second best-selling game of all time behind only Tetris. With a proven cooperative formula and a massive built-in audience, the sequel looks positioned to be a major multiplayer fixture when it drops later this year.
