Mewgenics Is a Massive Hit, But Developers Say DLC Is Still Far Off

Following a massive launch that saw half a million sales in 36 hours, Mewgenics creators Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel have confirmed that DLC is on the way, though production will not begin for a few months.
Mewgenics, the feline tactical rogue-lite from the creators of The Binding of Isaac, has pulled off a massive commercial win since launching earlier this month. According to developer Tyler Glaiel, the game smashed past development costs by moving 150,000 copies in its first six hours alone, a number that quickly ballooned to half a million units within a day and a half. For a title frequently described as XCOM with cats, the launch has positioned it as one of the year's early breakout hits, turning the community into a sprawling hub of shared runs, tier lists, and early discoveries.
Despite the massive player numbers and immediate demand for fresh content, fans will need to exercise some patience. Co-creator Edmund McMillen recently shared on Reddit that the development duo plans to wait a few months before starting on any post-launch content. The goal is to watch how the community interacts with the game and understand what players genuinely enjoy before locking down expansion plans. McMillen noted that while they have rough ideas for smaller additions like new classes and areas, a full DLC release will likely take about a year to build once development actually kicks off.
Fortunately, there is plenty to keep players busy while they wait for official expansions. Glaiel confirmed that the current build is packed with hidden secrets that the community will likely be uncovering for months, with more complex alternate reality game content being saved specifically for future DLC. On top of that, upcoming console ports and eventual Steam Workshop mod support mean this feline tactical adventure is going to have a very long tail.
