Nintendo announced Metroid Ravenous for the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing a darker 2D adventure from developer Mercury Steam in January 2027.
Nintendo used its latest showcase to announce Metroid Ravenous, the next major 2D entry in the storied franchise, slated for a January 2027 release exclusively on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation, the debut trailer shows Samus facing off against hostile forces that drain her energy, hinting at a darker tone for the character.
Serving as a follow up to Mercury Steam's critically acclaimed Metroid Dread, the new title leans into a starker narrative direction with Samus delivering a threatening line in the trailer. Alongside the January 28 launch date, Nintendo confirmed plans for a special edition release and two new amiibo figures to accompany the game.
As reported by Eurogamer, the project follows an earlier ratings board leak in Brazil. Given that Metroid Dread set a high watermark as the series best selling release with nearly three million copies sold in its first six months, expectations are exceptionally high for this next generation sequel.
