Developer 4A Games is releasing modern performance updates for Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light ahead of the launch of Metro 2039 in early 2027.
Developer 4A Games is prepping the ground for the upcoming Metro 2039 by rolling out fresh updates for Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. While both titles were legendary tech showcases when they originally launched, they have grown somewhat temperamental on modern hardware. These new patches aim to smooth out technical hiccups and make revisiting the wasteland much less of a chore for players on current systems.
The upgrades will tailor performance to your platform of choice. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the games will target native 4K at 60 fps or upscaled 4K at 120 fps, utilizing advanced features like PSSR on the PS5 Pro. Meanwhile, PC players are finally getting long awaited DLSS support alongside various quality-of-life tweaks. Full patch notes are expected to drop just ahead of the PC release on October 22 and the console rollout on October 29, courtesy of IGN South Africa.
Crucially, 4A Games is skipping massive overhauls like heavy ray tracing for these legacy patches, meaning your current setup will not melt trying to run them. That is a welcome relief as the community looks ahead to Metro 2039, which is currently slated to launch on February 4, 2027. Between keeping older classics playable and pushing new hardware to its absolute limits, 4A remains committed to delivering the brutal post-apocalyptic atmosphere the franchise is known for.
