Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2 will launch this August without Metal Gear Solid 4's original multiplayer mode, though Peace Walker multiplayer will make a return.
Konami has shared new details about the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2, bringing both good and bad news for long-time fans of the stealth franchise. According to an official update reported by IGN South Africa, the bundle will launch this August and finally bring Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to modern platforms. However, the package will completely omit the original Metal Gear Online component that accompanied the PlayStation 3 release, meaning players will not get to revisit those specific multiplayer lobbies.
While losing a legacy multiplayer mode stings for preservationists and veterans of the community, the collection is not entirely devoid of cooperative play. Konami also confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will retain its multiplayer functionality in this new release. For players who spent countless hours managing their Mother Base and tackling co-op ops with friends on handhelds or consoles years ago, seeing that feature preserved is a welcome relief.
Releasing legacy compilations always highlights the ongoing challenge of game preservation, especially when server-dependent components are involved. As digital ecosystems, cloud saves, and modern console architectures become the standard baseline for how we access our libraries, losing pieces of gaming history remains a frustrating reality. Even so, making these historical titles accessible to cross-platform players on modern hardware is a step forward, provided the underlying ports deliver the performance and stability the community expects when August rolls around.
