Mega Crit has integrated a month of beta testing into the main branch of Slay the Spire 2, bringing major character reworks, new art, economy tweaks, and a friend-only leaderboard system.
Developer Mega Crit has officially pushed a massive overhaul for Slay the Spire 2 to the main game branch, gathering a month of community feedback and beta testing into one definitive patch. While the team notes that the game remains firmly in early access and these changes are not entirely set in stone, the update brings substantial reworks to core characters like the Ironclad, Silent, Regent, and Necrobinder. Players will also notice the temporary MS Paint placeholder art finally swapped out for fresh visuals, alongside updated visual effects and clearer card descriptions.
The character balancing touches every corner of the roster, focusing heavily on survivability, synergy, and viability. The Ironclad gains new exhaust tools while dropping old mainstays, the Silent receives tweaks to rein in overly dominant builds while keeping shiv mechanics satisfying, and the Regent enjoys a wave of buffs to address early community concerns about his baseline power. Meanwhile, the Necrobinder's resource management sees a functional shift with altered energy mechanics, and the Defect receives minor tune-ups. Progression and economy systems also see adjustments, including revised merchant pricing and more predictable map generation.
Beyond the card pool, the update introduces a Phobia mode to tone down wriggly enemy animations, a new Badge system to track specific run accomplishments, and revamped leaderboards restricted to friends lists. Because Mega Crit is intentionally avoiding invasive anti-cheat software, friend-only leaderboards help bypass the leaderboard hacking issues that plague global boards.
