Developer Mankibo has announced Working with Montabi, a free desktop companion app revealed during the Akupara Direct showcase that brings cozy virtual creatures straight to your PC.
Developer Mankibo is expanding the universe of Montabi with a brand new free desktop companion app, giving players a way to keep their favorite virtual creatures right on their screen while they work or browse. Revealed during the recent Akupara Direct showcase, the project leans into the ongoing trend of productivity tools that double down on digital comfort. Instead of just another utility window, it brings character-driven engagement directly into your daily desktop routine.
For a generation of players who treat their PCs and setups as personal digital sanctuaries, desktop companions have quietly evolved into a staple category. Mankibo is tapping into that exact community desire by blending passive entertainment with familiar aesthetics. It is a smart pivot for an indie title looking to maintain player presence outside of active play sessions, keeping the connection alive while you are multitasking, chatting on Discord, or catching up on streams.
While full release details are still rolling out, the official announcement trailer highlights the casual, low-stress vibe that defines the project. As digital ownership and personalized virtual spaces continue to matter more to modern gamers, apps like this highlight how developers are finding creative ways to integrate games into everyday life. Keep an eye on Mankibo's updates if you want to add a little extra personality to your secondary monitor.
