Tabletop tactical combat is getting a major boost as Massif Press and Dark Horse Books team up for two new hardcover releases for Lancer, arriving in March 2027. Building on the momentum of the 2024 core rulebook, these new editions aim to make the mechanically rich mech RPG much more accessible for newcomers while expanding the lore for veteran groups. Preorders are officially live across major online retailers for $29.99 per volume, giving communities plenty of time to plan their next campaign.
The first release, Operation Fulcrum Dawn, serves as a bridge for players stepping into the system for the first time. Releasing on March 16, 2027, the book collects two narrative modules that take squads from rookie status to seasoned operators. Players will battle through urban flashpoints in Operation Solstice Rain before pushing into high-stakes combat against the Vestan Sovereignty in Operation Winter Scar. Alongside the missions, the hardcover packs in physical battle maps and tactical advice to help groups transition smoothly from digital character sheets to the table.
For tables looking to dive deeper into the lore, Lancer: Setting Guide Volume 1 arrives on March 30, 2027. This volume combines two expansive setting expansions into a single book, exploring the political intrigue of the Karrakin Trade Barronies and the lawless frontier of the Long Rim. It offers Game Masters plenty of narrative hooks ranging from corporate espionage to pirate skirmishes, proving that the game's universe extends far beyond standard mech combat.
As tabletop RPGs continue to share cultural space with digital gaming and streaming communities, releases like these highlight how physical books remain central to deep hobbyist experiences. Whether your group prefers running tactical grid combat on physical maps or adapting modules for virtual tabletops, these upcoming hardcovers provide a solid foundation for your next long-running campaign. Head over to Dark Horse Direct or major bookstores to lock in your preorders now.
