Maximum Thunderness Tries to Bring Saturday Morning Cartoons to Co-Op Roguelikes

Berzerk Studio's upcoming co-op roguelike Maximum Thunderness combines Saturday morning cartoon aesthetics with frantic action, and a recent demo preview highlights its chaotic multiplayer potential.

Berzerk Studio is back with another loud and high energy project. Known for musical bullet hell hit Just Shapes and Beats, the team is currently working on Maximum Thunderness. As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the upcoming action roguelike channels the frantic sugar rush of a classic Saturday morning superhero cartoon, complete with screaming guitars, jetpack wielding space rangers, and skateboarding aliens invading Earth.

Beneath the loud exterior, the game shares DNA with modern action roguelike heavyweights. Players blast through short highway chambers, managing timed reloads every twenty shots and picking up card-based augments between frantic battles. While designed for one to three players, testing out the cooperative scaling solo by attempting to use a controller and a keyboard at the same time proves that the game definitely demands a full squad or a lot of extra limbs.

Whether the title can carve out space in a crowded genre alongside deep narrative experiences remains to be seen. The flashy presentation is certainly doing heavy lifting to draw players in, but time will tell if the mechanics match up when the full game launches in autumn 2026. For now, curious players can try out the demo and add the game to their wishlists on Steam.
