Mattel is celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the original Xbox with a massive 3,509-piece building set featuring a 1:1-scale console, a working Duke controller replica, and interactive lights and sounds.
As the original Microsoft console approaches its twenty-fifth anniversary, Mattel is targeting nostalgia-driven gamers with a massive new product. Through its premium Mattel Brick Shop brand, the company has revealed a 1:1-scale, 3,509-piece replica of the original Xbox system. Coming in at a retail price of $329.99, the set is currently available for preorder through retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, with a scheduled shipping date of October 1.
This release goes beyond a static display piece by including a full-size, buildable replica of the infamous Duke controller. Pressing the controller buttons activates hidden scenes from three classic titles, featuring illuminated lighting effects and corresponding in-game soundtracks. Fans can swap between modular models representing Halo: Combat Evolved, Psychonauts, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, complete with a secret button combination that triggers a unique lighting sequence.
The set also includes twelve detailed NanoWorld figures to round out the display. Players get eight figures from Halo alongside two each from Psychonauts and Morrowind. For those who grew up hauling the heavy black console to weekend LAN parties, this brick-built tribute offers a tangible piece of gaming history for the display shelf.
