Critical Role star Matt Mercer is joining Warframe as Brysko, a noir detective character featured in the upcoming Tau expansion, following years of persistence from the development team at Digital Extremes.
Digital Extremes made a major splash at TennoCon 2026 by confirming that industry veteran and Critical Role dungeon master Matt Mercer is joining the voice cast of Warframe. Revealed in a report by Polygon, Mercer is stepping into the role of Brysko, a brand new playable Warframe designed around a distinct noir detective aesthetic. The upcoming Tau expansion places Brysko front and center, complete with a hardboiled inner monologue driving the narrative, swift close range combat using heavy gauntlets, and an undercover mission in the Sentient ruled city of Fornax that even features a playable casino card game.
Getting Mercer on board is the culmination of years of persistence from Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford. According to interviews from the event, Ford used her annual trips to The Game Awards to pitch Mercer on the role until the collaboration finally materialized. Community director Megan Everett playfully compared the team's ongoing talent acquisitions to Thanos collecting the Infinity Stones, noting that bringing in celebrated actors through organic industry connections continues to be a rewarding experience for the studio and the player base alike.
For the Warframe community, this casting coup highlights the game's ongoing evolution as a narrative powerhouse. The Tau expansion is scheduled to launch later in 2026, though players looking to jump straight into Brysko's noir adventure will need to be fully caught up on the game's extensive existing story content. As Digital Extremes continues to expand its universe across platforms, landing heavy hitters like Mercer proves that the sci fi staple remains a premier destination for talent across the gaming and streaming spaces.
