Marvel Unlimited is shutting down after 19 years, with Webtoon taking over operations via a newly rebuilt app launching this November. Current subscribers will be able to transfer their libraries, though new billing setups and tiered subscription plans will take effect.
Polygon reports that Marvel is retiring its flagship digital comics platform, Marvel Unlimited, after 19 years of operation. The standalone app will stop receiving new updates on December 7 and will be completely removed from app stores on December 28. In its place, Marvel is partnering with Webtoon to launch a rebuilt Marvel Comics app on November 16, promising access to a massive archive of over 35,000 issues. For long-time subscribers who rely on the platform as a digital bookshelf, transitions of this scale always spark anxiety over digital ownership and library preservation. Fortunately, Marvel has confirmed that users will be able to import their existing reading history and libraries into the new ecosystem. However, payment profiles will not transfer over automatically, meaning active subscribers will need to set up fresh billing with Webtoon while receiving prorated refunds for their remaining Marvel Unlimited time.
The shift comes on the heels of Disney acquiring a 2 percent stake in Webtoon in late 2025, laying the groundwork for a massive expansion that will eventually bring Star Wars, Pixar, Disney, and 20th Century Studios comics into the fold alongside Marvel properties. The new app will offer multiple subscription tiers, starting at $9.99 per month for a base plan that delivers new issues three months after print, scaling up to an Ultimate tier priced at $12.49 per month for faster access just one month after print releases. While the existing Marvel Unlimited app certainly had its share of technical quirks and plenty of room for modern UI improvements, asking communities to migrate accounts and re-sub物はscribe always tests player and reader patience. We will be watching closely to see if the rebuilt Webtoon architecture delivers the smooth cross-platform reading experience fans expect from modern digital subscriptions.
