Marvel Rivals Ranked Hit Hard by New Exploit That Ends Matches Without Penalty

Marvel Rivals players are exploiting the game's anti-cheat system by tampering with local config files to abruptly end losing matches without receiving ranked penalties, according to a report by Polygon.
Polygon reports that Marvel Rivals players are currently ruining ranked queues by exploiting the game's cheat detection system to shut down losing matches without facing any consequences. As streamer LytePK highlighted on social media, bad actors are briefly leaving matches, editing local config files, and returning just long enough to trigger the game's anti-cheat tripwire. Because the system interprets this file tampering as a hard cheat flag, the match abruptly cancels itself entirely, leaving everyone else high and dry while the exploiters protect their digital rank.
This malicious trick has turned local configuration tweaking into a serious headache for the community. While many PC players historically rely on config file edits for harmless performance tweaks or to disable obnoxious visual effects like heavy fog, those exact same file paths are now being weaponized. NetEase previously added warning messages for anyone tinkering with these settings, but the lack of actual bans has emboldened players to turn the loophole into a routine escape hatch for bad matches.
As Season 9.5 rolls on with its steady stream of new heroes like The Hood, NetEase needs to act fast to protect the integrity of the competitive ladder. The developer has a tricky balancing act ahead, as they must stamp out match manipulation while simultaneously giving PC players official in-game menus to handle performance optimization and weird default settings without forcing them into the code.
