Marvel Rivals Just Gave Us the Thing-Flinging Action We Didn't Know We Needed

Marvel Rivals is adding a bonkers new team-up where Human Torch can launch The Thing at enemies, and also dropping some film-inspired Fantastic Four skins. It's chaotic, it's fun, and it's probably going to get very silly indeed.

Right, so Marvel Rivals is at it again, dropping a whole heap of Fantastic Four goodness on us just in time for the new MCU film. NetEase Games, bless their cotton socks, are adding a team-up move that's, well, pretty bloody bonkers. Courtesy of Game Rant, we've learned that Human Torch can now pick up The Thing and use him as a, uh, fiery projectile.

Think about it: Johnny Storm, all flames blazing, scoops up Ben Grimm, the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing, and launches him skyward like a, like a really grumpy, rocky meteor. It's gloriously ridiculous, and I'm here for it. The animation supposedly mirrors a scene from the upcoming 'Fantastic Four: First Steps' movie. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm already imagining the chaos.

But wait, there's more! It's not just about flinging The Thing around (though, let's be honest, that's the main draw). We're also getting a fresh batch of Fantastic Four skins inspired by the film. Think powder blue, white accents, and that slightly retro-futuristic vibe. The skins are dropping on July 24th at 7 PM PDT, so mark your calendars, mates.

Now, I'm not usually one for cosmetic tie-ins (too much shiny, not enough substance, yeah?), but this… this feels different. Maybe it's the sheer absurdity of The Thing-flinging, maybe it's the promise of matching outfits with my squad. Either way, NetEase has piqued my interest.

Also, remember Jean Grey arrived with Season 3. While we are talking about skins, there's also the Summer Special event running, with Thor's 'Worthy Waves' skin up for grabs (free, no less!). Premium pass holders can snag Thing and Luna Snow skins, while Psylocke and Loki are sporting some limited-time summer looks in the shop. It's a cosmetic cornucopia, folks.

With all this new content – the Thing-flinging, the fancy outfits, the promise of Blade on August 8 – it's hard not to feel a bit optimistic about Marvel Rivals' future. The game launched late last year so it is still new, and so far, it's proving to be more than just another hero shooter. But what does this mean? Is this team-up mechanic a sign of more outlandish abilities to come? Could we see a Hulk-powered fastball special with Wolverine? Only time will tell, but right now, I'm grabbing my controller and practicing my Thing-launching technique.

Fair dinkum, NetEase. You've got my attention. Let's see what other surprises you've got up your sleeve.
