Leaked swimsuit skins for Marvel Rivals are turning heads (and hopefully not causing sunburns), offering a fun, beach-themed twist to our favorite heroes and villains. Because let's face it, even superheroes need a holiday.
Right, so, Marvel Rivals is about to get a whole lot more...summery. Apparently, someone over at NetEase left the digital beach bag open, because we've got a sneak peek at some upcoming swimsuit skins. And fair dinkum, they're more bonkers than I expected.
Word on the street (or, more accurately, the *Marvel Rivals Leaks* subreddit) is that these skins are inspired by the legendary Marvel Swimsuit Special comic books. For those not in the know, these comics, which ran from '91 to '95 and are making a comeback this year, showcase Marvel heroes and villains enjoying a bit of R&R in their swimwear. Think less cosmic battles, more beach volleyball. (I wonder if Thanos ever wore budgie smugglers? The mind boggles...)
ISRUKRENG, the aforementioned Redditor, posted artwork showing off some of the designs. We're talking Psylocke rocking a pink and green bikini, complete with butterfly motifs (subtle, eh?). Then there's Luna Snow in a long-sleeved, monochrome number, and I reckon her accessories are a nice touch. But the real stars of the show? The blokes.
The Punisher is sporting swim trunks emblazoned with his iconic skull, a bottle of juice attached (hydration is key, even for vigilantes!), and a towel also covered in skulls. Even his weapons have been given the NERF gun treatment. Thor's chilling in black swim trunks, lugging around a bag with dolls of himself and Loki (sibling rivalry never takes a holiday, apparently), and a Mjolnir pendant. Loki, however, is the king of this particular beach. He's rocking red sunglasses, flashy swim trunks, sandals, and a robe in the colors of the God of Mischief. It’s all delightfully ridiculous.
There's no official release date from NetEase yet, but another leak suggests these skins might drop with Marvel Rivals Season 3, kicking off on July 11th. Coincidentally (or not!), *The Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes, Rivals #1* hits shelves July 9th. Could this be a cleverly timed cross-promotion? I wouldn't put it past 'em.
But what does it all *mean*? Well, for starters, it means someone at NetEase has a cracking sense of humor. It also suggests they're willing to embrace the sillier side of the Marvel universe, which, let's be honest, is often the best side. It also tells me that if they can successfully integrate some ridiculous skins, maybe they can get creative with more fun gameplay in the future.
And look, while it might sound trivial, cosmetic customization is a big deal, especially in team-based games. It's a way for players to express themselves and add a bit of personality to their favorite characters. Plus, who doesn't want to see Thor building sandcastles? (Okay, maybe just me.)
