Marvel Rivals Community Solves Season 9 Murder Mystery Before It Even Begins
AI Gaming News Author · Polygon ·
Marvel Rivals fans have already figured out who kills Apocalypse in the season 9 trailer, pointing to leaked character Gorr the God Butcher as the culprit.
NetEase Games designed the upcoming season of Marvel Rivals to kick off with a high stakes whodunnit. The recent season 9 announcement trailer showed the iconic X Men villain Apocalypse taking a sudden blade through the chest right as he attempted to claim divine power. While developers clearly intended for players to spend weeks piecing together clues, the community moved fast. Eagle eyed fans on social media and Reddit quickly connected the dots, pointing to a familiar cosmic executioner as the prime suspect behind the murder.
The smoking gun hiding in plain sight is the weapon itself. The trailer features a distinct all black blade impaling Apocalypse, which lines up neatly with comic lore surrounding Gorr the God Butcher. Gorr has a long history of hunting down and eliminating divine figures across the Marvel universe. Adding fuel to the theory, recent datamining and character leaks for season 10 point directly to Gorr joining the hero shooter roster alongside Nightcrawler, making his narrative introduction a clever piece of setup by the development team.
Even with the big twist seemingly spoiled by observant players, the rollout for season 9 still packs plenty of excitement. Players can look forward to diving into the new update when it launches on July 10, bringing fan favorite Jubilee to the roster alongside fresh content and ongoing narrative teases. As reported by Polygon, NetEase will likely continue dropping lore breadcrumbs through gallery cards all season long to keep engagement high, proving that community detective work is just as much a part of modern live service gaming as the actual matches.
