Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that a Nova movie is in development, with writer Michael Waldron attached to the project following the recent San Diego Comic-Con panels.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally heading back into deep space. Following the massive slate of reveals at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with Brandon Davis that a Nova movie is officially in development. While the project was left off the main Hall H presentation slide, Feige let the news slip during a post-panel chat, giving fans the long-awaited confirmation that the cosmic hero is finally making the jump to the big screen.
Development on the project is already moving forward with screenwriter Michael Waldron attached to pen the script. Waldron brings plenty of franchise experience to the table, having previously worked on Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Avengers: Doomsday. This feature film replaces an earlier concept that would have brought the character to Disney Plus as a streaming series, signaling a bigger theatrical ambition for the intergalactic peacekeeper.
For those unfamiliar with the comics, Nova traditionally follows Richard Rider, a member of the Nova Corps who becomes the sole surviving centurion after a devastating attack. The Nova Corps previously made their cinematic debut in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. With heavy hitters like Avengers: Secret Wars, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther 3 currently taking priority on the production schedule, fans should not expect Nova to hit theaters until around 2029 at the earliest. Original reporting comes from Polygon, as detailed in their San Diego Comic-Con coverage.
