Marvel has announced a surprise one-shot comic special titled The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe, bringing Kermit and the gang into the superhero canon for the fiftieth anniversary of The Muppet Show.
The crossover event calendar for 2026 is getting genuinely surreal. Fresh off major comic industry crossovers that brought traditional rivals together, Marvel has announced a brand new one-shot special titled The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe. As reported by IGN South Africa, this unexpected collision of universes drops Kermit the Frog and the rest of the classic ensemble right into the middle of the Marvel canon.
Behind the project is a powerhouse creative team designed to give this strange pairing some real weight. Writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Pete Woods are handling the primary story, backed up by several short tales. The special is being published to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of The Muppet Show, offering a major milestone nod that blends nostalgic variety television with modern superhero storytelling.
For players and pop culture fans who track cross-media events and digital variant covers, this kind of unexpected IP blending is becoming standard practice across entertainment. Whether this paves the way for in-game collaborations or cosmetic tie-ins across your favorite live service titles remains to be seen, but it is certainly one of the more unique anniversary celebrations in recent memory.
