Mario Kart World's Already Speedrunning? Blimey, That Was Quick!

*Mario Kart World*, fresh off the Nintendo Switch 2 launch, is already making waves in the speedrunning community at Summer Games Done Quick 2025, raising money for Doctors Without Borders and probably breaking a few records in the process.
Right, so *Mario Kart World* just launched last month on the Nintendo Switch 2, and already it's tearing up the speedrunning scene at Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2025. Fair dinkum, that's faster than I can finish a cup of tea! For those not in the know, SGDQ is where the gaming gods (and goddesses) show off their skills for charity. They play games at ludicrous speed, and we all donate money while being suitably impressed (or questioning our own gaming abilities). This year, all the funds are going to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders, which is a bloody good cause if you ask me. They provide medical aid to people affected by conflict, disease outbreaks, and disasters worldwide. Last year, SGDQ raised a whopping $2.5 million for them, so let's hope they smash that record this year, eh?
Now, back to *Mario Kart World*. It seems those clever folks at Nintendo stuffed the game with enough shortcuts and glitches to make a speedrunner's head spin. I reckon we'll see some world record times get absolutely obliterated. I'm personally keen to see how they tackle the open-world elements – should be a right laugh. Alongside *Mario Kart World*, you'll also be able to catch speedruns of the absolutely brilliant *Blue Prince*, the controller-snappingly difficult *Cuphead*, and *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle*, which I'm personally looking forward to!
SGDQ 2025 runs from July 6th to 13th, and you can watch it all unfold live on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel. If you're feeling generous (and let's be honest, who isn't when watching someone beat a game in under 10 minutes?), you can donate via GamesDoneQuick.com.
If you're still on the fence about *Mario Kart World*, Eurogamer gave it a pretty glowing review, calling it "entertaining, snackable, fun". Or, if you're already hooked but need a bit of a nudge in the right direction (maybe to unlock that dastardly Mirror Mode), Eurogamer's got guides aplenty, including one on those elusive Dash Food locations. Sounds like a right giggle, doesn't it?
