Nintendo is releasing a free update for Mario Kart World today that adds ten classic SNES tracks, two new Knockout Tour routes, larger online lobbies, and balance adjustments.
Nintendo is keeping its flagship Switch 2 launch title fresh with a substantial free update rolling out today. Version 1.8.0 delivers ten classic retro courses inspired by the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES, bringing nostalgic locations like Choco Island and Ghost Valley into the modern rotation with classic question-mark panels replacing traditional item boxes.
Beyond the trip down memory lane, the update expands the competitive scope of the game by introducing two new Knockout Tour routes named Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally. These multi-stage events challenge racers to stay ahead of the pack across four consecutive tracks. The patch also targets community feedback by expanding online and LAN room capacities to accommodate up to 26 players, alongside a dedicated Spectator Mode for lobbies reaching max capacity.
Under-the-hood adjustments round out the patch with significant quality of life improvements. Balance changes include tweaked projectile bounce limits for items like green shells and fireballs, reduced recovery times after getting crushed by Thwomps, and refined item drop probabilities for Knockout Tour. Time trials also receive better ghost comparison visuals, ensuring players have all the right data tools to shave seconds off their personal bests.
