Mario Kart World update 1.8.0 arrives today, bringing ten classic SNES tracks, two new Knockout Tour routes, and a new spectator mode for Switch 2 players.
Nintendo is breathing new life into its current-gen flagship racer with a massive surprise update for Mario Kart World. Revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast and launching later today, update version 1.8.0 brings ten classic tracks straight from Super Mario Kart into VS Race and Time Trials. Players can look forward to tearing through nostalgic favorites like Choco Island, Vanilla Lake, and Ghost Valley, complete with the original flat item panels instead of modern floating boxes.
Beyond the trip down memory lane, the free update introduces two brand new Knockout Tour routes named Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally. Quality of life improvements are also a major focus of this patch. Online and LAN lobbies now support up to 26 players with a dedicated Spectator Mode, and creators and streamers will appreciate new camera tools like a first-person perspective switch and real-time ranking displays during spectator feeds.
Originally facing some community concern over a quiet post-launch DLC window following the Nintendo Switch 2 rollout, this patch proves the development team is listening to player feedback. The update also includes essential balance adjustments for items and physics, alongside plenty of bug fixes. The full patch notes are live now, giving the community plenty to test out as soon as the download goes public.
