Marathon Update 1.0.0.4 Softens Brutal PvE Combat and Tweaks Exfiltration

Bungie's latest Marathon patch addresses widespread community complaints by nerfing UESC enemy and boss health, while adjusting faction progression, gear conditions, and resource spawns.
Bungie is moving fast to address one of the loudest community pain points following the launch of Marathon. While the extraction shooter is pulling in a steady sixty thousand concurrent players daily on Steam alone, early adopters and solo operators made it clear that fighting the game's UESC bots felt punishingly unfair. Marathon update 1.0.0.4 directly targets that friction by reducing the health pools of most standard UESC enemies and shaving down the shield health of bosses. According to developer notes accompanying the patch, the goal is to ease the heavy resource drain on both solo players and full crews without completely stripping away the danger that makes these encounters engaging in the first place.
The update does more than just nerf enemy health bars. It also brings notable adjustments to gear economy and faction progression. Rook received a significant balance pass, meaning the WSTR shotgun it can spawn with now carries a compromised condition, requiring players to track down a Matter Fixative item if they want to keep it after exfiltrating. To balance out that hurdle, exfiltrating with Rook now yields increased CyberAcme reputation, bringing solo and crew bonuses into better alignment. Players running sponsored kits from MIDA, CyberAcme, and Arachne will also find themselves spawning with more starting ammunition.
Quality of life improvements round out the patch to make the grind a bit smoother for everyone currently dropping into the map. More med cabinets and munitions crates are now populating the Perimeter, and contract completion should prove less frustrating thanks to objective HUD markers that now appear from twenty meters away instead of ten. For all the finer details, including temporary map changes around the Outpost and Pinwheel, you can read the complete breakdown directly on the official Bungie blog as reported by Polygon.
