After Marvel's long delayed Blade movie officially collapsed, star Mahershala Ali and former director Bassim Tariq channeled that lost energy into Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a new action thriller earning perfect review scores.
For years, the gaming and film communities watched the troubled production of Marvel's Blade movie with a mix of fascination and dread. Between director departures, shifting eras, and endless delays, the project eventually collapsed, leaving Mahershala Ali without his much anticipated entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As Polygon reported, Marvel head Kevin Feige recently admitted defeat on the long stalled project, confirming that the adaptation had officially fizzled out.
Out of that development hell came an unexpected silver lining for cinephiles and action fans. Ali reunited with Bassim Tariq, the original director who walked away from the Marvel production in 2023, to create an entirely new feature titled Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. Ahead of its September 25 release, the film has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a pristine 100 percent score across its first seventeen reviews, instantly cementing itself as a critical masterpiece.
The movie stars Ali as a religiously devout hitman fighting across Houston to protect his children after his wife passes away, featuring a supporting cast that includes John Cho and Giancarlo Esposito. Critics are singling out the visceral action choreography as a major highlight, noting that it clearly channels the physical preparation Ali put in while waiting to play the daywalking vampire hunter. While the cancelled Marvel project remains a classic industry what if, audiences are getting a far more focused and creatively uncompromising action thriller instead.
