Mahershala Ali and Bassam Tariq's crime drama Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother follows a devout hit man searching for breast milk for his infant daughter across a satirical America.
Following a cancelled Marvel project, actor Mahershala Ali and director Bassam Tariq have reunited for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a striking crime drama that premiered at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. The film follows Latif, a devout Muslim contract killer and former Quran teacher who strictly uses blades instead of guns. When his wife suddenly passes away, he is left to care for his rebellious teenagers and a hungry infant daughter who urgently needs breast milk. This desperate search sends him across a heightened, satirical American landscape spanning from local mosques to rural strip clubs.
The narrative balances dark comedy with heavy emotional stakes as Latif navigates complicated relationships within his community and clashes with various religious factions. John Cho delivers a standout performance as Pastor Hwan, a gun-toting evangelical figure who presents a formidable obstacle and a dark mirror to Latif's own rigid code. While the action sequences are sparse, they arrive with brutal intensity and genuine remorse, punctuated by a striking score from Son Lux and vibrant cinematography that captures the sweltering rural setting.
While the film occasionally stumbles by leaving some of Latif's backstory and operational rules underdeveloped, it remains a visually rich and emotionally complex journey. IGN South Africa notes that the project ultimately delivers a compelling look at faith, fatherhood, and survival. It offers a distinct cinematic experience for audiences who appreciate character driven storytelling with high stakes and sharp cultural commentary.
