Wizards of the Coast revealed four new Japan exclusive Magic: The Gathering promo cards for the Planeswalker Series, highlighted by a twenty dollar Voice of Victory Commander staple that players outside of Japan will struggle to acquire without paying steep aftermarket prices.
Wizards of the Coast has unveiled four new promotional cards for Magic: The Gathering through the official Japanese X account, continuing a frustrating trend of region locked collector items. Tied to the ongoing Planeswalker Series events running from July through December, these cards feature striking alternate art from celebrated illustrators. Players participating between July and September can grab a Twitching Doll promo with art by Tomoyuki Mizufune, alongside a competitive top prize of The Wandering Rescuer illustrated by Hisashi Momose. Both cards originate from the Duskmourn: House of Horror set.
The later half of the year brings even more desirable art pieces. Running from October to December, participants will receive Strategic Betrayal featuring artwork by Amayagido, while tournament victors can secure Voice of Victory illustrated by Tokiwata. Voice of Victory stands out as the major prize here, functioning as a crucial white Commander staple that normally commands a twenty dollar price tag on the secondary market thanks to its ability to shut down opponent counterspells and generate tokens.
For most of the global player base, however, these stunning variants will remain out of reach unless they are willing to pay massive aftermarket markups or travel to Japan. Regional exclusives have long been a thorn in the side of digital and physical card game communities, especially when high demand staples are locked behind local tournament series. As reported by Polygon, acquiring these beautiful pieces outside of Japan will likely require browsing high end secondary marketplaces and paying steep collector prices.
