Magic: The Gathering Misses the Beat With KPop Demon Hunters Secret Drop

Polygon reports that the new Magic: The Gathering KPop Demon Hunters Secret Lair drop delivers great art and solid card value, but completely misses the mark by leaving out key characters as commanders.
As reported by Polygon, Wizards of the Coast recently revealed its upcoming Secret Lair Corn Maze Superdrop, featuring a much-anticipated crossover with Netflix's animated hit KPop Demon Hunters. While the collection boasts gorgeous art by creators like Scott Watabane and Helen Chen alongside solid reprint value in cards like Swan Song and Underworld Breach, the drop ultimately leaves players wanting more. Fans expected dedicated treatments for central musical acts like Huntr/x and the Saja Boys, but the actual release sidesteps the chance to put these beloved characters in the Command Zone.
Secret Lair has previously proven it can handle musical collaborations quite well, notably with Hatsune Miku crossover cards and preconstructed commander decks. Instead of delivering mechanically unique legends or dedicated group drops, this current selection feels like a cautious toe in the water rather than a full celebration of the source material. For a community that treats digital collections and themed decks as key avenues of self-expression, missing out on leaders like Rumi or Mira feels like a major oversight.
There is still hope that this initial release is simply a soft launch for something much larger on the horizon. With multiple Universes Beyond sets planned for the coming year, Wizards of the Coast has plenty of room to expand this partnership into a full-scale release. Players and collectors will likely still pick up these gorgeous prints for their binders and casual decks, but the community is clearly holding out for a true headlining act next time around.
