Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Reality Fracture set is introducing Flickering Hound, a mechanical counterpart to Displacer Kitten that triggers off creature spells instead of noncreature spells.
Magic: The Gathering is wrapping up a massive year of releases with its upcoming in-multiverse set, Reality Fracture, which launches on October 2 following pre-release events starting September 25. While the recent announcement of the Star Trek Universes Beyond crossover has drawn mixed reactions from the community regarding its sci-fi aesthetic, the lore-heavy Reality Fracture is winning players over with major story beats centered on Jace's plan to reshape the multiverse.
Beyond the story implications, card reveals are driving serious excitement across deckbuilding circles and streaming spaces. As reported by GameRant, the set is introducing a mechanical mirror to the notorious Displacer Kitten in the form of a new white creature called Flickering Hound. While the original card triggered whenever a noncreature spell was cast, this new variant flips the script to reward players for casting creature spells.
Flickering Hound costs three generic and one white mana for a 2/2 body, allowing players to exile a creature and return it to the battlefield whenever they cast another creature. It is a sharp design that fits neatly into the overarching reality-bending theme of the set, giving Commander players and competitive builders a fresh tool to abuse enter-the-battlefield triggers without breaking the color pie entirely.
