Magic: The Gathering Avoids Another Spider-Man Debacle by Bringing Full Marvel Crossover to Arena

Wizards of the Coast is correcting its previous Spider-Man digital release mistake by bringing the upcoming Marvel Super Heroes set to MTG Arena with full branding, while retroactively updating past Spider-Man cards for digital players.
When Wizards of the Coast rolled out their Universes Beyond crossover plans, digital card players naturally wondered how rights issues and platform parity would shake out. Fans will remember the awkward handling of the Spider-Man set on Magic: The Gathering Arena, which famously forced a last-minute aesthetic rehaul featuring generic names and art under the Through The Omenpaths banner. It was a bizarre compromise that stripped the digital release of its cultural punch, leaving Arena players with substitute cards that felt more like knockoff brands in a television show than actual Marvel icons.
Fortunately, Wizards of the Coast has learned from that misstep. According to a recent official developer update reported by Polygon, the upcoming Marvel Super Heroes set launches on MTG Arena on June 23 with full, uncompromised branding intact. Preorders open on June 2, and the publisher confirmed that all future Marvel sets will follow the same treatment. In a surprisingly consumer-friendly move, Wizards is even retroactively patching the missing Spider-Man content directly into the digital client starting June 16, complete with original card names, specialized avatars, and themed basic lands.
For players who already collected the substitute Omenpath cards, the transition will be handled through a neat one-time collection grant. Players keep their existing cards while gaining access to the true Marvel variants, allowing them to toggle between card styles at will without diluting their digital collections. It fixes a friction point that never should have happened in the first place, but for a digital economy where aesthetic ownership and recognizable IP matter deeply to the player base, this course correction is a major win for platform parity.
