Lucasfilm Shrugs Off Fan Pressure on Scrapped Star Wars Ben Solo Project

Lucasfilm head Dave Filoni confirmed at D23 2026 that Disney has no current plans to revive the scrapped Star Wars movie The Hunt for Ben Solo, despite sustained fan pressure and lobbying.

Star Wars fans hoping to see Adam Driver reprise his role as Kylo Ren in a standalone film are out of luck for now. Following massive fan campaigns and months of online mobilization, Lucasfilm leadership has confirmed that the heavily discussed project, titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, is not currently in active development at Disney. Speaking to Variety at D23 2026, Lucasfilm head Dave Filoni addressed the shelved project with a lighthearted deflection, making it clear that the film remains on the back burner despite overwhelming community enthusiasm.

The scrapped movie first came to light when director Steven Soderbergh and Adam Driver revealed they had spent two and a half years developing the feature before Disney ultimately pulled the plug. While former leadership praised the script as exceptional, and fans even flew banners over studios demanding its revival, the studio opted to move forward with other initiatives. Soderbergh previously voiced frustration over the cancellation, noting that the team essentially gave years of unpaid conceptual work to a project that never saw the light of day.

Even though a revival looks unlikely given the current production roadmap, Filoni's response acknowledges that the creative team is well aware of how deeply the community cares about the character's post-sequel fate. As the franchise pivots toward upcoming releases like Ahsoka Season 2 and Star Wars Starfighter, player and viewer communities will simply have to keep watching to see if Disney eventually reconsiders the high-demand pitch.
