NC revealed Like or Die at Gamescom, an upcoming shooter that combines the destruction of The Finals with the cosmic streaming premise of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Korean developer NC recently pulled back the curtain on its newest project during Gamescom, revealing a flashy first person shooter titled Like or Die. According to an exclusive report by Polygon, the game immediately draws visual and mechanical comparisons to Embark Studios' hit shooter The Finals, featuring heavy environmental destruction, utility tools like zip lines and jump pads, and combatants who shatter into digital cubes upon elimination.
The twist lies in the progression loop, which leans heavily into modern creator culture and high concept sci fi. Players are tasked with streaming their matches on a fictional platform called Quaya, farming likes and audience engagement to attract in game sponsors who dole out valuable gifts and upgrades. Speaking with Polygon, NC head of IP Kim Hwan revealed that the audience tuning into these bloodsports includes aliens and creatures from across the galaxy, framing the entire experience around a cosmic spectator sport reminiscent of the popular book series Dungeon Crawler Carl.
While the setup sounds like prime material for a chaotic battle royale or extraction shooter, development is still in its early stages. NC has not announced a formal release date, though the team is targeting a closed test before the end of the year. Prospective players should also note that the game's Steam page features a standard generative AI disclaimer, noting that automated tools were used for minor auxiliary assets before being polished by human artists.
For a generation of players who treat streaming, creator integration, and spectator sports as standard parts of the gaming diet, Like or Die hits several right notes. If NC can deliver tight gunplay to back up its high concept cosmic streaming premise, this is one shooter worth keeping on your radar as more details emerge.
