LEGO to Retire 34 Video Game Sets by the End of 2026

LEGO will discontinue 34 video game-themed sets across franchises like Minecraft, Sonic, and Animal Crossing by the end of 2026, making way for upcoming collaborations and new hardware kits.

LEGO is preparing to phase out 34 video game-themed sets by the end of December 2026, according to recent reports from Game Rant. The upcoming retirement wave targets a massive block of gaming collaborations, heavily impacting fan favorite properties like Minecraft, Sonic the Hedgehog, Animal Crossing, and Fortnite. Fortunately, the cuts primarily affect lower-priced playsets rather than high-end collector kits, meaning everyday builders can still grab these smaller scenes before they vanish from shelves.

Minecraft takes the hardest hit in this rotation, losing 14 distinct sets including The Nether Lava Battle and The Baby Pig House. Other major franchises are also seeing significant rollbacks, with Sonic losing six sets, and Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and Fortnite each dropping four builds. Collectors and completionists will want to keep a close eye on specific character minifigures tied to these retiring boxes, such as Horizon's Aloy and Animal Crossing's Blathers, which will soon become harder to find at standard retail prices.

While losing dozens of sets stings, LEGO's product rotation is standard procedure to clear warehouse space for upcoming inventory. The brand already has major pipeline drops lined up, including fresh collaborations for Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z alongside the highly anticipated LEGO PlayStation set. Players and physical collectors alike should review their wishlists now to pick up any closing sets before the final inventory clears out on December 31.
