Legendary comic artist Greg Capullo has hinted that 2026 may be his final year drawing interior art, citing a desire to spend time with family and the disbanding of his longtime creative team.
For anyone who grew up reading superhero comics over the last three decades, the distinct style of artist Greg Capullo is unmistakable. From his defining work on Spawn and X-Force to his legendary New 52 Batman run with Scott Snyder, Capullo has helped shape the visual language of modern comics. Speaking at a recent panel at Orlando MegaCon, as reported by Popverse, the 64-year-old artist hinted that 2026 might be his final year drawing full interior pages.
Capullo pointed to personal priorities and recent changes within his creative circle as the primary reasons for his potential transition. Having recently turned 64, he expressed a desire to step away from the grueling hours at the drawing board to spend more time with his wife. Additionally, the disbanding of his longtime art team played a significant factor in his decision. With longtime colorist FCO Plascencia moving on and trusted collaborator Jonathan Glapion establishing himself as an independent artist working with McFarlane, the familiar rhythm of production has shifted.
While this news marks a bittersweet moment for the community, it is not a complete goodbye to the medium. Capullo has made it clear that he still plans to produce cover art, leaving the door open for occasional project contributions. Fans hoping for his return to interior work, such as the open invitation from Scott Snyder to draw an arc for Absolute Batman, may have to settle for the occasional variant cover. Even so, closing the book on interior pages marks the end of an iconic era for one of the industry's most celebrated creators.
