League of Legends Is Finally Getting In-Game Team Voice Chat After 17 Years

Riot Games is bringing native team voice chat to League of Legends in Patch 26.20, restricting the feature to players at Honor level 3 and higher.

According to a recent report by Game Rant, Riot Games is finally bringing team voice chat to League of Legends nearly 17 years after the game first launched. Developer updates from Paul Bellezza and Andre Van Roon confirm that the feature arrives in Patch 26.20 to help players coordinate strategies with random teammates. While pre-made squads have long relied on external apps, this native tool will soon streamline communication directly inside the client.

To keep toxicity in check, access to the new team voice chat will be restricted to players at Honor level 3 and higher. The rollout begins in North America and Oceania before expanding to major competitive regions like South Korea, Brazil, and Latin America. For solo queue players who want to save system resources and avoid alt-tabbing to Discord mid-match, this update marks a massive quality-of-life shift for one of the biggest free-to-play ecosystems in gaming.

Native voice integration reflects how modern competitive multiplayer titles are expected to function out of the box. As digital economies, cross-platform socialization, and team play continue to evolve, Riot is finally closing a glaring feature gap that has persisted since 2009.
