Larian Studios shared new details about their upcoming Divinity game during a Reddit AMA, confirming a team size of around 500 developers, handcrafted loot mechanics, turn-based combat, and launch co-op with flexible modding limits.
Following the massive success of Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios is already looking ahead, sharing fresh details about their upcoming Divinity project during a recent Reddit AMA. According to CEO Swen Vincke, the studio has expanded to roughly 500 developers to support the new game. While the team grew significantly during the production of Baldur's Gate 3 to handle its cinematic scope and complex choice systems, the current growth rate has stabilized since most of the core infrastructure is already in place.
Players waiting for the next major release can also expect some important shifts in game design. Larian confirmed that Divinity will move away from the random, level-dependent loot system seen in past Divinity: Original Sin titles, opting instead for the handcrafted item approach that worked so well in Baldur's Gate 3. The studio also verified that the game will remain a turn-based RPG and will feature cooperative play right at launch.
Co-op fans have even more reasons to celebrate because Larian plans to support the game with dedicated modding tools. Technical director Bert van Semmertier noted that while the initial player count will tie directly to the standard party size, the inclusion of mod support means players will eventually be able to bypass hard limits and expand their multiplayer sessions.
