Krafton Cancels PUBG Extraction Shooter Black Budget Before Launch

Krafton has officially canceled the development of PUBG: Black Budget, ending the extraction shooter project before its planned release following two closed alpha tests.

Krafton and PUBG Studios have officially pulled the plug on PUBG: Black Budget, canceling the tactical extraction shooter before it ever reached a full release. Originally designed to push the iconic battle royale IP into new territory, the game dropped up to 45 players onto a time-looped island called Coli Island to scavenge, fight AI and rival squads, and extract valuable gear. Following a pair of closed alpha tests in late 2025 and mid-2026, the studio concluded that the project's current trajectory would not sustain a long-term player experience.

The cancellation marks a sharp reversal for the development team, especially after previous alphas drew heavy player interest alongside constructive feedback regarding combat clarity and session fatigue. While testers navigated everything from environmental atmosphere to anti-cheat alerts, Krafton has not pinned the project's death on any single piece of community critique. This is also the second major PUBG spin-off to stall out this year, following the quiet shutdown of the top-down tactical shooter PUBG: Blindspot back in March.

Even with Black Budget off the table, Krafton is not entirely done trying to stretch the PUBG universe past its original battle royale blueprint. The publisher recently introduced PUBG: DED.NET, an upcoming multiplayer shooter featuring roguelite progression elements. As studios navigate an increasingly crowded extraction genre, pulling the plug on a project early remains a pragmatic, if painful, step toward protecting brand quality over forced launches.
