Krafton Cancels PUBG Extraction Shooter Black Budget After Closed Tests

Krafton has officially cancelled PUBG: Black Budget after concluding that the extraction shooter could not deliver a sustainable long-term player experience.

As reported by Polygon, Krafton has officially canceled development on PUBG: Black Budget, its ambitious entry into the popular extraction shooter genre. Following a wave of community interest sparked by games like Arc Raiders and Escape from Tarkov, PUBG Studios began crafting its own tactical survival experience. Despite holding closed alpha tests in December and June to gather player feedback, the development team ultimately decided the project was not meeting long-term quality standards.

According to an official statement from PUBG Studios shared on the game's Steam page, the team reviewed the project's direction and concluded it could not deliver the kind of lasting experience players deserve. While cutting the cord on a game in development is always a tough call for any studio, it shows a level of quality control that players should appreciate in an era where publishers often push unfinished projects out the door anyway.

This marks another cancelled experimental offshoot for the franchise following the earlier shelving of PUBG: Blindspot. However, fans of the broader universe still have multiplayer roguelite PUBG DED.NET to look forward to. The lessons learned from the short-lived alpha tests of Black Budget will hopefully guide Krafton as they shift focus back to other upcoming projects in their pipeline.
