KonoSuba season 4 is officially slated for a 2027 release, bringing another change in animation studios as Kadokawa moves production to in-house studio ENGI, though original director Takaomi Kanasaki is returning to helm the project.
The party is getting back together, but the artists behind the canvas are shifting once again. According to a recent announcement on the official website, KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World will return for its fourth season in 2027. Fans of the pioneering isekai comedy have plenty of reasons to celebrate the confirmed release window, but the news comes with a familiar twist. Production is moving once more, handing the reins from Studio Drive to Studio ENGI for the upcoming episodes.
This marks the fourth time the franchise has changed animation houses. Studio Deen handled the first two seasons, J.C. Staff took on the theatrical film, and Studio Drive managed season 3. While constant studio shuffling can sometimes spell trouble for visual consistency, the industry has seen successful handoffs before. In this case, the shift is likely driven by media giant Kadokawa, the IP's publisher, moving production in-house since it owns Studio ENGI. Because KonoSuba is easily the biggest property in the studio's portfolio, season 4 will serve as a massive proving ground for the team.
Fortunately, the production shift comes with a major anchor of creative continuity. Takaomi Kanasaki, who directed the very first season, is returning to direct season 4. Having a foundational creative voice back at the helm should help preserve the chaotic, trope-skewering energy that fans expect from Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness. As original reporting from Polygon points out, viewers will just have to hope the transition goes smoothly when the series makes its grand return in 2027.
