Kevin Feige Admits Defeat on Long-Delayed Marvel Blade Project

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige opens up about the troubled production of the Mahershala Ali-led Blade movie, admitting to major frustrations over the project's indefinite stall.

Seven years after Marvel Studios first shocked San Diego Comic-Con with the surprise announcement of a new Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali, the project remains completely grounded. Speaking recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Marvel boss Kevin Feige addressed the troubled production with surprising candor. Feige admitted that he feels like a gigantic loser and failure for not getting the film off the ground with Ali, highlighting one of the studio's most public development struggles.

The path to this point has been defined by constant delays, creative turnover, and multiple rewrites. After Ali made his surprise entrance in Hall H back in 2019, the production cycled through numerous directors and writers while missing every projected milestone. Marvel eventually pulled the movie from its release schedule entirely. While fans did get to see Wesley Snipes reprise his iconic role in 2024 via Deadpool and Wolverine, a standalone vehicle for Ali has looked increasingly unlikely with each passing year.

Despite the cinematic misfire, the creative team has managed to pivot. Bassam Tariq, the director originally attached to the doomed Marvel project, ultimately teamed up with Ali for an upcoming action thriller titled Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. With San Diego Comic-Con just around the corner, players and moviegoers alike will have to wait and see if Marvel offers any official closure on the character during its upcoming Hall H presentation.
