Kernel Hearts, an upcoming co-op roguelike combining Hades-style action with a magical girl aesthetic and Persona social mechanics, launches on September 17 for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
The upcoming roguelike adventure Kernel Hearts finally has a locked-in release date, bringing its distinct blend of classic run-based progression and magical girl aesthetics to players next month. Developed by Ephemera Games and published by Whitethorn Games, the title launches on September 17 for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. The premise drops players into the mythical Tower of Babel to climb, fight, and eventually take down a rogue deity before humanity faces total extinction.
What sets Kernel Hearts apart from standard solitary dungeon crawlers is its fully integrated cooperative multiplayer. Players can team up with up to three friends to tackle the tower together, combining temporary skills, spells, and movement abilities on the fly. The game also incorporates social elements reminiscent of the Persona series, allowing players to befriend, build relationships with, and romance various allies within celestial domains between combat runs.
Progression extends far beyond simple combat loops thanks to a lab system where players can equip and manage up to 256KB of skill chips to fine-tune their builds. As reported by Game Rant, the game is leaning heavily into cross-promotional hype as well, with squad member Fernet already making a splash as a Fortnite skin and appearing as a gift with purchase for Epic Games Store pre-orders. For players wanting a taste of the action early, a playable demo is currently live on Steam and the Epic Games Store ahead of next month's launch.
