Kaiju No. 8 Returns This September With a Four-Episode Spinoff Series

Kaiju No. 8 is returning next month with a four-episode spinoff short series focusing on Captain Gen Narumi, streaming globally on Crunchyroll starting September 5.

The wait for the main story is still ongoing, but Kaiju No. 8 is making a swift return to screens next month. According to a report by Ryan Epps at Polygon, the franchise is launching a four-episode original short anime titled Kaiju No.

8: Narumi's Week at Work. The project shifts the spotlight to Gen Narumi, the arrogant and video game obsessed captain of the Defense Force's First Division. Rather than adapting the manga directly, this side story offers a more laid-back look at Narumi dealing with the mundane realities of his job when he is not fighting giant monsters.

Production I.G. is returning to animate the shorts, with Shigeyuki Miya back in the director's chair and Kizuku Watanabe handling the story draft.

International fans will not have to jump through hoops to watch the new episodes. Crunchyroll is streaming the series globally on the same day it premieres in Japan, with new episodes dropping weekly starting on September 5. While it is not the full next chapter of the main anime, the four-episode run provides a fun, character driven detour that leans into the series' signature workplace comedy.
