Polygon's recent review highlights how MAPPA's Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 finale, Sendai Colony, delivers a masterclass in visual storytelling and dynamic direction under Shōta Goshozono.
MAPPA has consistently raised the bar for action anime, and the studio has just delivered another landmark achievement with the season 3 finale of Jujutsu Kaisen. As reported by Polygon in their recent review, the episode titled Sendai Colony adapts Gege Akutami’s manga with incredible visual flair and creative ambition. Director and storyboarder Shōta Goshozono continues to steer the adaptation with a distinct artistic vision, balancing faithful recreations of iconic manga panels with dynamic camera work that takes full advantage of the animated medium. The result is a show-stopping sequence that highlights why modern battle shonen remains a powerhouse in the broader entertainment landscape.
The narrative picks up right in the thick of the Culling Game, featuring Yuta Okkotsu breaking a fierce deadlock against three reincarnated sorcerers from the Heian era. From his intense confrontation with the cockroach curse Kurourushi to the dizzying three-way skirmish involving Takako Uro and Ryu Ishigori, the episode serves as a masterclass in pacing and choreography. Goshozono's willingness to embrace artistic freedom over a rigid, panel-by-panel recreation breathes fresh life into the source material, ensuring that manga readers and anime-only fans alike experience the same high-stakes tension. Moments like the simultaneous Domain Expansion deployment translate the chaotic energy of the original pages into breathtaking motion.
For modern viewers who treat anime as a core part of their daily entertainment diet, sequences like the Sendai Colony finale offer plenty to dissect and share across community hubs on Discord, TikTok, and YouTube. MAPPA proves that high-octane action can coexist with sharp spatial direction and genuinely clever combat tactics. As the series continues to dominate streaming conversations, this finale stands tall as some of the finest visual storytelling the studio has ever produced.
